AMOSM Becomes CANA Congregation!! PDF Print E-mail

It is exciting news to report that the Anglican Mission of Southern Maryland (AMOSM) has received approval from the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) for recognition as a congregation in development.

This formal approval means AMOSM is now a congregation in good standing with CANA, and comes under the oversight of CANA Mission Bishop Martyn Minns. Since its founding days in 2005, AMOSM elected to remain within the framework of Orthodox Anglican Theology, but had been worshipping and functioning without any formal ties to higher ecclesiastical Anglican authority. This was not by design but more the result of the absence of ordained Orthodox Anglican clergy and geography. In 2008, the Anglican District of Virginia (ADV) began providing visiting CANA Supply Priests one Sunday a month. This arrangement provided the essential Sacramental Ministry of Holy Communion and an unofficial connection to the vibrant and growing Virginia Orthodox Anglican community. This very positive ministry, along with the individual and strong encouragement of numerous visiting CANA priests, led to the AMOSM completion of the CANA Congregational Application Process and the subsequent CANA approval, indeed a high water mark in the history of AMOSM. Members of AMOSM unanimously embrace this exciting and wonderful news as the principle means by which to further the presence of the Good News, the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in Southern Maryland.

AMOSM worships each Sunday at 9:30 AM in room 135 of the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, 44219 Airport Road, California, MD.
